I am a PT and own a retail store Sports Medicine Store/Metro Walk And Run. We not only sell orthopedic and athletic training type products but we are also a speciality running shoe company as well. I would hope that PT education programs would begin to see the need for in-depth education on the importance of foot and ankle in regards to overall well being. Too many times runners come the store after having been sent to us by a PT for a knee support when on fact it is a foot foundation issue that needs to be addressed. The same holds true for orthopods who only look at the localized area of discomfort with no regards to the any other area of the kinetic chain. I work very closely with the head trainer for the KC Chiefs in providing custom orthotics for players. He and I have addressed and successfully attacked players knee issues that are in fact a foot support/placement issue.
